Intertwine. a polyphony
This is a non-linear storytelling experienxe. It is about vessels, carriers of stories, whose lives intermingle inside the little village I built, Intertwine.
I take the idea of the Hero’s Journey, as outlined by Joseph Campbell in his book “The Hero with a Thousand Faces”, where you have a main character who goes on some kind of transformative heroic journey, conquers or defeats a foe, or, in my case, journeys up the “Tree” that nobody in the village had ever reached the top of, and returns home victorious.
Instead, I chose to borrow ideas from Ursula K Le Guin’s essay “Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction”, in which she rejects Hero’s Journey, conflict-driven storylines and instead proposes stories that follow stories, or stories that build upon stories, non-linearily, horizontally, leaving them open-ended and free for interpretation.
