Being of Saerang-i
In Yubin’s graduation exhibition, she presents the journey of her inner transformation. Her distinctive drawing technique—rooted in the buddhistic art of Thangka and intuituve states—intricately weaves her storytelling through countless delicate details that conjure an illusionary atmosphere. The pain of growth, the realizations which born out of deep reflection, and a profound acceptance of the world all unfold through Saerang-i (새랑이), her auto-biographical character. By visualizing fleeting emotions, desires, and ideals toward the world, she explores the complex layers of consciousness. Through this journey, she invites viewers into a space where stories emerge between her world and theirs. Her work does not only remain confined to personal experiences, it also engages with political, environmental, and social patterns. Specifically, she challenges limiting constructs such as dualism, hierarchy, stereotypical constructs, and anthropocentrism, questioning what hidden potential within us may awake when we break free from those structures. Thus, rather than offering definitive answers, she aims to establish a contemplative space that leads from the self-deconstruction which is the process of enlightenment and open-mindfulness.
All of these narratives are uniquely expressed through various materials such as Hanji (한지, Korean paper), ink, and rice paper, each having diverse textures.
